Declaring the Major

Spring Quarter Deadline: April 29, 2022

 

If this is your first time declaring...

  1. Complete two introductory Politics courses* (chosen from Politics 1-79) with a grade of C or better;
  2. Fill and complete the Academic Plan Form (APF) and the Petition to Declare Form

  3. Once you complete the form, please share the google sheet with the Politics Advisor at polimajor@ucsc.edu along with a message noting you are wishing to declare the major. 

 

If this will be your second major/ minor... 

  1. Complete two introductory Politics courses (chosen from Politics 1-79) with a grade of C or better;
  2. Obtain an updated-signed academic planning form from your current major advisor.
  3. Once this has been obtained, please share the google sheet with the Politics Advisor at polimajor@ucsc.edu along with a message noting you are wishing to declare the major.

  

* A junior transfer student may satisfy the requirement for one of the two introductory courses by completing a course in political science or equivalent department with a grade of "C" or better. The course from another institution may be considered for substitution only if it appears on the UCSC Transfer Credit Summary. 

 

**On the Academic Plan Form make sure to add Politics requirements you have completed, in progress, and those you intend to complete in the future. Refer to the Politics Worksheet for the Major and the Course Menu as you create your plan. Make sure to distinguish between CORE versus ELECTIVE requirements as you plan future coursework. If you need assistance with your academic plan you can consult our peer advising team during their online drop-in hours.
