Careers for Politics Majors

What's next after I graduate?

Like other students in the humanities and social sciences, Politics majors go on to pursue countless types of career paths. Because of the many options, it can be a bit bewildering for students wondering how to think about their futures.

The American Political Science Association offers this material on Careers for Political Science Majors, which provides one place to start.

Our department's page featuring notable alumni can give you some inspiration.

Be sure to check out the resources, events, career fairs, and so forth at the UCSC Career Center.

And the UCSC Career Advice Network (CAN) is a great resource for identifying friendly alumni willing to do informational interviews and networking with students.

Graduate study

Some students elect to continue their studies in masters or doctoral programs. If you are considering graduate school, we strongly suggest you have a conversation with one or more of our faculty members to discuss options and considerations.

The Ralph Bunche Summer Institute aims "to introduce to the world of doctoral study in political science to undergraduate students from traditionally underrepresented racial and ethnic groups or, those interested in broadening participation in political science and pursuing scholarship on issues affecting underrepresented groups or issues of tribal sovereignty and governance."
