Declaring the Major

Before Declaring the Major

All students are required to complete two introductory Politics courses (chosen from Politics 1-79) with a grade of "C" or better prior to declaring the Politics major. These courses are normally taken during the first year. A junior transfer student may satisfy the requirement for one of the two introductory courses by completing a course in political science or equivalent department with a grade of "C" or better. The course from another institution may be considered for substitution only if it appears on the UCSC Transfer Credit Summary.

To Declare the Major:

STEP 1
Complete a Declaration of Major form and the Department of Politics Worksheet for the Major. If you are declaring a double major or major/minor you will also need an Academic Planning form. Use the Politics section of the UCSC General Catalog if you need help identifying the major requirements and completing your Worksheet for the Major.

STEP 2
Sign up and attend a Declaration of Major Workshop. Sign up sheet is located in bulletin board near Merrill-27.

STEP 3
Submit completed worksheet and declaration of major forms to the undergraduate adviser in Merrill-27 during office hours to get declared.

We recommend that at the end of your junior year you review your major requirements with the Politics undergraduate adviser. Print and complete the Senior Check form and meet with the undergraduate adviser during office hours.
